Audition

Grimm
I tried out for a musical called "Musical! The Bard is Back!" today. My best friend tried out for it yesterday and everyone in her group got called back. They didn't tell my group who was getting called back, so I guess not everyone is. The show looks pretty silly, but rather entertaining. It's kind of like "High School Musical" (bleeeh), "Hairspray" (yaaay), and a play that I did called "The Brothers Grimm: Out of Order" (wooo) squished together.

Here's the description. )

I SOO want to be one of the "techies". 'cause who doesn't want to sing a love anthem to duct tape?

My audition went... okay. The assistant director from "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" was there. She actually remembers me, unlike the director of that show. Anyway, she was really nice to me, as always. She all-but got up on her feet and cheered when I finished my song, even though I thought I did HORRIBLY. The first thing they had us do was dance. It was pretty hard at first, but I think I did okay. After that, we sang. And, like I said, I thought I did absolutely awful. I sang "Stepsisters' Lament" from "Cinderella". My voice cracked on about the fourth word and I was really nasal and quiet and BLEEEH. After that, we did cold readings. I was actually really proud of the readings I did. I read for Marge (the "stage-mom from hell"), Mallory (the stage-mom's daughter), and Peggy (the director). Mallory and Marge were so much fun. I got people to laugh. So that was cool. However, I left feeling really not good about the singing. My grandma and her friend said that I could go back and ask if the director would let me sing again, though. So, we ate lunch, and then went back. I asked slightly shyly, but enthusiastically if they would be willing to let me try again and that it was totally fine if they were too busy, etc. They were busy with another guy (who sang "76 Trombones" from "The Music Man". He was really good!), but they did let me in and they all clapped and smiled and laughed when I sang. I had my grandma stay in the waiting area, and she said she could hear me loud and clear through the closed door.

So yeah... I feel much better now. No idea if I'll get called back, but at least I'm happy with how I auditioned. The cast list goes up on Tuesday at noon... and I swear, I'm NOT getting my hopes up. I swear! I won't do it! I refuuuuse!
